SILVIJA MILIŪNAITĖ
Composer Silvija Miliūnaitė merges in her work the influences of the Western classical music she has experienced as a violinist with the aesthetic ideas of minimalism and neo-romanticism she is so fond of now. For Silvija, the inspiration mostly lies in the combination of musical traditions and modern means of musical expression rather than in the need for relentless experiments and revolutions. Her personal ties with each and every of her pieces is poetic and intimate, while her attitude towards the listener is communicative. Her compositions, according to Silvija, sometimes bear traces of pop and rock music that “breathes softly at her back”, one such example being her collaboration with Antis (Duck), the nation’s legendary rock band which included her ANTISymphony for string quartet into its 2013 album Baisiai Džiugu! (Extremely Thrilled). Miliūnaitė has composed more than 40 works. She has written compositions for strings, choir, chamber ensembles, Concertos for solo instruments, orchestral pieces. More recently, she has worked extensively as a theatre, ballet and modern dance composer.
