Biography
From 1999 to 2012, Silvija Miliūnaitė attended the Juozas Naujalis Music School in Kaunas where she studied violin and composition before entering the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre where she continued her composition studies under Mindaugas Urbaitis and received her master’s in 2022.
Her music has been played by many of Lithuania’s leading performers and ensembles, including violinists Dalia Dedinskaitė, Džeraldas Bidav, cellists Gleb Pyšniak, Giedrė Dirvanauskaitė, pianists Indrė Baikštytė and Rokas Zubovas, sopranos Viktorija Miškūnaitė and Vera Talerko, and as well as the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, the St Christopher Chamber Orchestra, the Kaunas City Symphony, the Lietuva Song and Dance Ensemble, the Jauna Muzika Choir, the Bel Canto Choir, and the Art Vio String Quartet.
Her music has been performed in Lithuania, Japan, Belgium, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Latvia, Austria, Hungary, Ukraine, Switzerland and Poland.
Concerto for violin and string orchestra (2019) is among her most prominent pieces the debut performance of which featured Džeraldas Bidva, a Lithuanian violinist and the concert master of Kremerata Baltica. This has led to Silvija’s closer collaboration with the internationally renowned ensemble which has since played more of her compositions. One of their most recent joint programs, titled From Darkness to Light, commemorates the 1986 disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear plant in Ukraine.
